Think of a niche as your shower's built shelf, fully recessed into the shower wall. Instead of heading to the local home hardware store, your tile installer, contractor, or you (if you're doing it yourself!), has installed a built in shelf into the wall of your shower or tub.
Shower niches can come in all shapes and sizes. From a vertical niche, to a small shelf, and if you have the space, an Infinity niche which goes from wall to wall in your shower.
Two of our Perfect Level Master pros: Scotty Chow and Mack Burrows, stopped by the Perfect Level Master warehouse here in the GTA and showed us exactly how to build a niche like a pro.
From the Setup to the Layout and if you feel so inclined: the Lighting, Scotty and Mack chat through it all and even give their must-have tools to get the job done.
Before you learn directly from the pros. Here are a few of the key takeaways you should keep in mind when building a shower niche:
1. The niche is the focal point of the shower
When planning and making your install, everything is centred left or right to that focal point.
2. Is the niche light worth it?
Scotty votes: yes! The niche light is dimmer than the rest of the lights you would have in a bathroom, making it the perfect night light.
